About the program
The Ohrsom Gap Year Program offers Australian and South African students a transformative nine month-long experience in Israel, based in the heart of Jerusalem. The program fosters personal growth, independence, and real-life skills through dynamic activities and adventures whilst creating lifelong friendships in the process. The Ohrsom Gap Year places an emphasis on three key areas: Education, Experience and Travel.
Education
Students attend top Jewish educational institutions in Jerusalem, gaining inspiration from global experts. The Entrepren-Ohr program develops career and entrepreneurial skills, culminating in a Shark Tank-style competition. Living independently, they manage daily responsibilities while engaging with Israel’s Start-Up scene, fostering growth, responsibility, and innovation.
Experience
Ohrsom Gap Year offers hands-on experiences, including a winter trip to the North of Israel, scuba diving certification in Eilat, and the Jerusalem Marathon. Students volunteer on Kibbutzim, volunteer with Sar-El, and engage in solidarity activities. They also complete an Israel advocacy course with StandWithUs, gaining skills, adventure, and a deeper connection to Israel.
Travel
Ohrsom Gap Year includes three major overseas trips. Students explore the vast and diverse landscape of the USA. In India, students go on a thrilling tiger safari to see Royal Bengal tigers in their natural habitat and experience the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas on a rewarding overnight hike. The EuroTrip features iconic sights like the Eiffel Tower, Swiss Alps and Northern Lights, concluding with a meaningful and introspective trip to Poland.
