About the program
Shnat Netzer is the Reform/Progressive Jewish Gap Year program, built around community, personal growth, leadership, and social action. Participants live, volunteer, and study alongside young people from Israel and around the world during an immersive 6-to-10-month program.
Rooted in the values of Tikkun Olam, Reform Zionism, and Progressive Judaism, Shnat Netzer offers a genuine immersion in Jewish life in Israel today. Through experiential learning, hands-on volunteering, and real leadership responsibilities, such as designing and delivering programs for young people, helping build community projects, and mentoring peers, participants develop the skills and confidence to lead within Netzer and the broader Jewish community.
Central to the experience is the kvutsah, the close-knit cohort of participants who journey through the program together. Together, they deeply support, encourage, challenge, and inspire one another throughout their Shnat journey. The friendships, adventures, and shared memories that come out of Shnat Netzer are ones people carry with them for life.
Ultimately, Shnat Netzer is a program that shapes how participants see themselves and the world around them, developing a sense of purpose and independence that stays with them long after the year ends.
