Voyage to Medicine is a semester Study Abroad program that combines practical experience at one if Israel’s leading hospitals together with academic studies and the opportunity to participate in clinical research and EMT volunteer work. This program is a result of a special collaboration between TAU International, Assaf Harofeh Medical Centre, Magen David Adom and Masa Israel Journey
The program provides a truly immersive experience for students who want to gain insight in the medical and health care field. As part of the program, participants have the opportunity to shadow hospital staff members and feel integrated in the daily activity of the hospital departments such as ER, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Orthopaedics and more.
Students in the program begin with a mandatory Ulpan course which goes for 4 weeks. This provides participants with an opportunity to improve their Hebrew in order to prepare them for the immersive situations they’ll encounter during the program. After the Ulpan program, participants will complete a one-week certification training to prepare them for their volunteer shifts with Magen David Adom.
After this, students begin their academic coursework at Tel Aviv University, spending one day a week at the Assaf Harofeh Medical Centre where students will complete their shadowing work in the hospital department of their choice. Throughout the semester, students will volunteer for shifts with Magen David Adom as they wish, majority of which volunteer 1-2 times a week.
Additionally, students live in Tel Aviv and get to experience the amazing culture and vibrancy of the city!
When I found the Voyage to Medicine program at TAU, as I was reading the description, I could already see myself there, living in Tel Aviv, getting to know more about all the different departments that constitute the hospital, meeting so many incredible people, and getting paramedic training!
Upon my arrival, the Madrichim were so helpful and kind; they made me feel at home straight away. I lived in the dorms with three other amazing girls who were also part of the same Voyage to Medicine program.
My experience at TAU taught me so much. I met many amazing people who I still talk to today. I connected with my roots by living and experiencing the Israeli lifestyle and culture. With the Madrichim, we traveled and explored all parts of Israel.
Through the Voyage to Medicine program, I got the chance to assist, observe, and do so many amazing things I wouldn't be able to list them all. I still remember the day I got the acceptance letter two years ago; little did I know how much this journey was going to change me. Applying to the Voyage to Medicine program was the best decision I have ever made!
