Established by Birthright Israel in 2011, the Excel Fellowship begins with a transformative summer in Israel and continues as a lifelong global network focused on professional excellence, personal growth, and Jewish leadership.

Program Overview

The Excel Fellowship combines a full-time professional internship in Israel with curated leadership programming, peer connections, and immersive experiences across the country.

Fellows are selected for academic excellence, leadership potential, and ambition to become the next generation of Jewish business and tech leaders.

During the summer, Fellows:

• Complete a full-time internship in Israel

• Participate in a curated speaker and leadership series

• Travel together on immersive weekend experiences

• Are paired 1:1 with an Israeli Excel Fellow

• Join a lifelong global Excel alumni community

Cost & What’s Covered

The Excel Fellowship is fully funded.

Included:

• Housing in Israel

• Most meals

• Internship placement support

• Educational programming and group travel

Not included:

• Return flights to Australia

• Personal expenses

Flight note:

• Participants cover their own return flight unless joining a Birthright Israel trip immediately beforehand.

• Students who have not yet done a Birthright Israel 10-day trip are encouraged to join one ending just before Excel, allowing their return flight to be covered.

• Once you participate in Excel, you are no longer eligible for a Birthright Israel 10-day trip.

Eligibility

Open to Jewish young adults who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and professional ambition.

For Australian applicants:

Eligible up to one year after completing an undergraduate degree

Applicants must:

• Be pursuing or recently completed relevant academic coursework

• Demonstrate strong academic and leadership potential

• Identify as Jewish as recognised by Birthright Israel

Final eligibility is determined through the application process.

If eligibility feels complex, the Excel team prefers to speak one-on-one.

Application includes:

• Online application

• Three short-answer questions

• Short video submission

• Academic transcript

• Applications are reviewed in stages, with offers issued on a rolling basis.
